IS IT SUSTAINABLE?
Yes, all our bamboo is harvested from sustainable sources. Ecoride, our partners in Ghana, are committed to sustainable land management across their 200 hectare plantation, while our Indonesian suppliers, East Bali Bamboo Bikes, ensure their locally grown stocks are replenished using environmentally sound methods.
WILL MY BIKE ROT IF I LEAVE IT OUTSIDE?
Bamboo is naturally water resistant and our heat treating process ensures it stays that way. We also varnish our frames with durable epoxy resin for added protection. Your bike won’t rot if left outside though we recommend covering your bike if storing out of doors. Like any high quality product, treat your bike with care and it’ll give you years of riding pleasure.
IS IT STRONG?
Made from interwoven fibres, bamboo is a natural composite material with a high strength-to-weight ratio. It can withstand large amounts of stress and boasts a tensile strength to rival steel. This versatile wonder material is tough and durable, being used around the world for buildings, scaffolding, flooring, sports equipment and, of course, bikes.
IS IT SAFE?
Your safety is our priority. Our bikes have been carefully designed to harness the natural strengths of bamboo. Many prototypes were built before we settled on our final specs and each bike undergoes rigorous quality checks before leaving our workshop. We take care to ensure your bike is safe and reliable.
IS IT LIKE RIDING ANY OTHER BIKE?
Just as carbon fibre and steel feel different to one another, lightweight bamboo has unique properties that give it a feel all of its own. For instance, unlike metal, bamboo dampens road vibration, giving you a much smoother ride. You’ll get used to it in no time but if you’re still unsure why not try before you buy? Visit us in Bristol and take a ride on one of our sample bikes.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY BIKE TO ARRIVE?
It takes between six and ten weeks for your bike to arrive. Each frame is hand crafted to order by our international partners and then shipped by sea to further reduce the environmental impact. If you’ve already ordered, email us with your order number for status updates. Your shiny new ride will be well worth the wait!
DOES MY BIKE REQUIRE AFTERCARE?
To get the most from your bamboo bike you’ll need to give it the love and respect it deserves. We’ll provide you with simple aftercare instructions and a year of free help and advice should you need it. Regular servicing is recommended to keep things running smoothly; our specially trained Bristol bike wizards at Holy Spokes bike workshop will take care of you.
WHAT IF THE BAMBOO CRACKS? IS IT THE END OF THE ROAD?
Weirdly, cracks in bamboo can actually strengthen the wood if treated with care. When a crack appears, resin can be applied, filling the gap and adding to its strength. It’s very important not to ride the bike until the resin is set. If you have questions about this don’t hesitate to contact us or bring your bike into our workshop so we can help you out.
